My cat sheds so much hair and it's driving us mad?

I have a short haired Siamese who has a beautiful sleek coat, but sheds horribly. I think the best you can do is wipe him down with a wet washcloth (since baths wont do) and brush him regularly. It's what I do to maintain my cats shedding.
